I'm trying to decide between the Intel 12400F and the 14400F for my gaming setup. The 12400F costs around 140 USD, while the 14400F is closer to 185 USD. I'm not looking to upgrade my RAM or GPU anytime soon, as I already have 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I currently own a 10400F and just need some advice on whether the upgrade is worth it. I've heard some concerns about the 14th generation CPUs potentially having reliability issues, so I'd like some thoughts on that too.

When comparing these, consider that the 12400F < 13400F < 14400F in terms of performance. Don’t forget to drop the 'F' in prices for easier comparisons!
Looking at gaming benchmarks, the 14400F gives you about 10 to 11 more FPS at 1080p compared to the 12400F. If you can swing the extra cash, the 14400F might be worth it since it should last you a bit longer overall.
You could consider selling your i5-10400F and getting a used i7-11700F. That way, you'd upgrade without needing to change anything else.
But honestly, the 12400F would still perform a bit better than the 11700F.
The issues mostly reported with the 13th and 14th gen CPUs have been addressed through BIOS updates, so those fears might be overstated. Do you have a motherboard in mind yet?
The 14400F is basically just a new label for some 12th gen tech, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it blowing up or anything!
Why not stretch your budget a little more and get an i7-12700K instead? It’s a better investment overall!
That’s way above my budget unfortunately—like 370 USD, almost my whole salary!

That’s what I was thinking too, but some friends mentioned that the 14th gen has bugs. Maybe I'm just lucky with my picks.
