I've decided to buy an AMD 9060 XT and am trying to choose between the 8GB and 16GB models. My system uses a Ryzen 7 5800XT, a 1080p monitor, and Linux. The least expensive 8GB card I can find locally costs €284, while the cheapest 16GB version is €360. I don't currently plan to play demanding modern games that need a lot of VRAM, but I expect to keep this build for several years. Is paying the extra €76 worthwhile for better longevity, or is 8GB enough for 1080p?

The 16GB version won’t necessarily make games faster right now, but it can help avoid texture-quality compromises and memory-related stuttering in future titles. Paying €76 more for twice the VRAM is reasonable if you intend to keep the card for a long time; otherwise, the 8GB model offers better immediate value for a 1080p system.
At 1080p, 8GB should be adequate for current games, especially if you aren’t targeting demanding new releases. However, since you plan to keep the card for years, the 16GB model gives you more breathing room and reduces the chance of running into VRAM limitations later. If the extra €76 fits your budget, it’s the safer long-term choice.
