I'm shopping for a graphics card and the RX 6700 XT 12GB and RTX 5060 8GB cost about the same where I live. I mainly play at 1080p or 1440p and want the better long-term choice. Should I prioritize the 6700 XT's extra VRAM, or go with the newer RTX 5060 and its newer features, upscaling support, and driver updates?

The RTX 5060 is the safer pick if you care about newer features, better upscaling, and current driver optimization. You can also reduce texture or other graphics settings if a game runs into VRAM limits. I’d choose it for a mostly 1080p system, while the RX 6700 XT makes more sense if 1440p and high textures are the priority.
I’d be cautious about buying an 8GB card for the long term. Many games still run well with 8GB, especially at 1080p, but newer AAA releases can already push past that at higher settings. The 6700 XT’s 12GB gives it more breathing room, although its older architecture may become a limitation before the extra VRAM does.
Both should perform fairly similarly, so there isn’t a disastrous choice here. The RX 6700 XT has a clear advantage in VRAM, which helps at 1440p and with demanding future games. The RTX 5060 is newer, has better modern upscaling features, and should receive driver support for longer. For 1080p, I’d lean toward the 5060; for 1440p, the 6700 XT’s 12GB buffer is more appealing.
