If the RX 9060 XT is the 16GB model, it makes a lot of sense here. It uses less power, produces less heat, is usually smaller, and offers stronger ray tracing and newer upscaling features. The tradeoff is around 15–20% less traditional raster performance than the 7800 XT, but avoiding another $50–60 for a PSU makes the overall value much closer.
I’d lean toward the RX 7800 XT if you care mostly about raw performance, especially for high-refresh-rate games or a future 1440p monitor. Both cards should have access to modern FSR features, so the 7800 XT’s extra performance could be more useful over time. Just make sure the total cost includes a reliable PSU, not only the graphics card.
Think about the complete system cost rather than just comparing GPU benchmarks. If the 7800 XT plus a suitable PSU costs noticeably more, the 9060 XT may be the smarter purchase, especially since you’re currently using a 1080p display.
