I'm building in a Fractal Design Terra mini-ITX case and can currently get a PowerColor RX 9060 XT 16GB for nearly the same price as an RX 9070 12GB. The 9060 XT is smaller, so I'm wondering whether its extra VRAM or reduced size would be more useful than the 9070's performance, especially for airflow and thermals in this compact case. The 9070 option is the unusual GRE model, and I'm also considering the standard RX 9070 for better long-term performance.

The regular RX 9070 is still reasonably efficient, so thermals shouldn’t be a major problem in the Fractal Terra. The graphics card also gets direct access to outside air through the side panel, which helps in a small case. The 9060 XT’s smaller size may improve clearance, but it doesn’t automatically make it the better choice if both cards cost about the same.
At the same price, I’d choose the RX 9070 GRE. The performance difference is substantial, and even if you undervolt it to reduce heat and power consumption, it should still outperform the 9060 XT. The extra 4GB of VRAM on the 9060 XT probably isn’t enough to outweigh that advantage at this performance level.
That makes sense. I’m leaning toward the 9070 GRE now, although the standard 9070 may be worth it if the extra performance helps it stay useful for more years.
