Should I choose the RX 9070 GRE or spend $100 more on the RX 9070?

I'm building a gaming PC with a Ryzen 5 9600X and 16GB of DDR5 RAM, with a total budget of about $1,500. The RX 9070 GRE costs around $600, while the regular RX 9070 is about $700. Choosing the RX 9070 would use my entire budget, but I'm currently gaming on a 1080p monitor and plan to upgrade to a higher-resolution display soon. Is it smarter to save the $100 with the 9070 GRE and put it toward a monitor upgrade, or buy the faster RX 9070 and delay the monitor purchase?

Donโt overlook the memory budget. A single 16GB stick can limit performance, so ideally plan for 32GB with two matched sticks. If buying the 9070 leaves no room for that, getting the GRE and upgrading the RAM sooner could be the more balanced choice.

Also check your power supply before deciding. The GRE generally has lower power spikes and can be easier to run on a quality 750W unit, while the regular 9070 may need more headroom depending on the specific model.

The 9070 GRE is already more than enough for 1080p and is a good value at $600. If you were planning to stay at 1080p, Iโd save the money. Since youโre expecting to upgrade the monitor soon, though, the regular 9070 makes more sense for the extra performance and VRAM.

For only $100 more, Iโd lean toward the regular RX 9070. Itโs roughly 18% faster and has 16GB of VRAM instead of 12GB, so it should hold up better when you move to 1440p. Your current 1080p monitor can wait a little longer.
