I'm building a gaming PC for 1080p now and 1440p soon. I mostly play esports titles such as The Finals and Marvel Rivals, with some AAA games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077. Both options cost roughly $1,630 in my region and use the same case and Cooler Master MWE Gold V3 750W power supply.
Build 1: Ryzen 5 7500X3D, Radeon RX 9070 16GB, 1x16GB DDR5-6000 CL30, and an Asus B850 Max Wi-Fi motherboard.
Build 2: Ryzen 5 9600X, Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB, 2x16GB DDR5-6400 CL32, and a Gigabyte B850M D3HP motherboard.
The main compromise with Build 1 is running one 16GB memory stick initially. I plan to add another 16GB stick in roughly five or six months, but I may buy the 1440p monitor first. DDR5-2x8GB kits available locally are limited to poor speeds, so they are not appealing. Would the RX 9070 and 7500X3D provide better gaming performance despite the temporary single-channel memory, or is the 9600X with 32GB of dual-channel RAM the more consistent choice?

The 9600X with 32GB dual-channel memory is the safer and more consistent setup. A single memory stick can hurt minimum FPS and frame-time consistency, and the extra CPU cache on the X3D chip will not eliminate that problem in every game. That said, the RX 9070 is substantially faster than the RX 9060 XT, especially at 1440p, so Build 1 may deliver higher average FPS if you can tolerate the temporary memory limitation.
Before choosing, see whether a Ryzen 5 7500F paired with 32GB and the RX 9070 fits your budget. Giving up a little CPU performance may be a better compromise for a 1440p gaming system, where the stronger GPU will usually matter more. If that combination still cannot fit, Build 2 avoids the immediate memory bottleneck while Build 1 offers considerably more graphics performance.
The CPU savings are not enough to cover the local price difference between 16GB and 32GB of memory, so I would still have to downgrade the GPU to make that option work.
I’d choose the 7500X3D and RX 9070, then add a matching second 16GB stick as soon as practical. It is generally easier to upgrade memory later than to replace a graphics card you bought on a tight budget. Many games lose only a few percent with one stick on an X3D processor, although some titles do show noticeably worse lows, so checking benchmarks for your most-played games would be useful.
For esports games at high refresh rates, dual-channel memory is more important because the CPU can become the limiting factor and minimum FPS matters. For AAA games at 1440p, the RX 9070 is the much more meaningful upgrade. Since you already intend to add another stick, Build 1 makes sense if you can accept less consistent performance for a few months and use a matching module later.

That’s my dilemma: the GPU difference looks much larger than the CPU difference, but I’m worried that single-channel memory will undermine the 7500X3D in the games I play.
