I'm building my first PC and have narrowed it down to two options: an RTX 5050 system with 16GB of DDR4 memory, or an RTX 2060 system with 32GB of DDR5 memory. Which setup would offer better gaming performance and make more sense for future upgrades?

I’d choose the RTX 5050 with DDR4. The graphics card will have a much larger effect on gaming performance than the difference between DDR4 and DDR5, and 16GB is still enough for most games. Just make sure the processor and power supply are reasonable.
I wouldn’t pay a premium for a new low-end graphics card. Depending on local prices, a used RTX 3060 or 3070 could be a better value, especially if you can find a balanced CPU, motherboard, and memory bundle. Either way, check the condition of used parts and don’t cut corners on the power supply.
DDR5 itself usually won’t make a huge difference in gaming, but the platform behind it may be newer and easier to upgrade later. The CPUs and motherboards in both systems matter a lot here, so it’s hard to make a final call without those details.
If these are the only two complete systems, the 5050 option is probably the better gaming choice. The RTX 2060 is an older card, while the 5050 should provide better performance and newer features. I’d also consider increasing the 5050 build to 32GB of DDR4 if the cost is reasonable.
