I currently have Windows 11 and Ubuntu set up in a dual-boot configuration, mainly for gaming. I want to switch completely to Ubuntu, remove Windows, and possibly reformat or reorganize the drives. I have enough space to copy the files I need, but reinstalling Ubuntu and rebuilding my current setup would take several hours. Is it better to move or preserve my existing Linux root partition, or should I back everything up and perform a clean installation?

Back up your files and use the opportunity to start clean. If you have a separate drive, you can temporarily disconnect or leave it untouched while testing, then copy your important files and projects back after installing Ubuntu. A fresh install avoids carrying over a messy partition layout or old configuration.
If you are happy with the current Ubuntu setup, you do not necessarily need to migrate the root installation. Back up your data and configuration first, boot from an Ubuntu installer USB, and choose the option to erase the target disk and install Ubuntu. The installer will remove the Windows partitions and create a fresh Linux layout, including an ext4 filesystem. You will then need to reinstall your applications and restore your files.
That makes sense, but I have a busy day and would rather not spend it rebuilding a system that already works. I took notes during the original installation, although I may have missed a few details.
