I'm considering an upgrade, mainly to the motherboard, although I'm open to other suggestions. My current system has an ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB of TeamGroup DDR4-3600 memory, an RTX 4070 Ti, several SSDs, and an M.2 drive as the primary storage.
I originally started looking because of audio problems and noticed that ASUS's newest listed motherboard drivers are from 2023. The audio issue turned out to be a disconnected cable, but it made me question whether the board is still being properly supported.
Since this is an AM4/X570 system, newer motherboard choices are limited. Moving to AM5 would mean replacing the motherboard, CPU, and RAM with DDR5. Is there any worthwhile AM4 motherboard upgrade, or would it make more sense to keep this board and wait? Alternatively, is moving to AM5 now worth the extra cost?

The Crosshair VIII Dark Hero is already one of the better X570 boards, so replacing it with another AM4 model would mostly be a sideways move. Update the BIOS and install the current chipset, audio, and network drivers from their original manufacturers before spending money on new hardware.
Motherboard manufacturers don’t provide every component’s driver themselves. Get the X570 chipset package directly from AMD, audio and network drivers from the relevant component manufacturers, and BIOS updates from ASUS. A mature platform may not receive frequent board-specific driver releases, but that doesn’t mean the hardware is unsupported.
If you want a real performance and upgrade-path improvement, AM5 is the more sensible direction. A B650-class board paired with a CPU and DDR5 kit that fit your budget should be a solid choice. Just compare the total cost first, because your current 5900X and X570 board are still perfectly capable, and replacing everything may not provide enough benefit unless you need more CPU performance or a future upgrade path.
Replacing a high-end motherboard just because the vendor’s audio package is old probably isn’t worth it, especially since the sound problem was caused by a cable. If you actually want a major platform upgrade, skip another AM4 board and move straight to AM5; otherwise, keep this system and consider an inexpensive internal or USB sound device if audio problems return.
That makes sense. The audio issue is fixed now, so I’m mainly concerned that the board-specific driver page looks abandoned. I’ll check the component manufacturers directly before considering an upgrade.
