I previously owned an RTX 5080 that I bought for around $900, but I sold it a few months ago when prices were rising and I had less time for gaming after having a newborn. Now that I have more time, I bought an RTX 5070 about two weeks ago, but I miss the performance of the 5080. I'm considering selling the 5070 and switching to an RX 9070 XT because the price difference seems fairly small and the performance appears much better. Is the 9070 XT actually a worthwhile upgrade, or should I spend more on an RTX 5070 Ti instead? The card will be used exclusively for gaming.

The choice depends on which features matter to you. The RTX 5070 Ti has stronger software support through DLSS, frame generation, ray reconstruction, and newer Nvidia rendering features. The 9070 XT is faster in most standard games and can be competitive in ray tracing, but it falls behind in heavy path tracing and AMD’s upscaling and frame generation are generally less polished. For straightforward gaming value, I’d choose the 9070 XT; for Nvidia features and demanding ray tracing, consider the 5070 Ti.
If the 9070 XT is only a small amount more than your current card, it’s a reasonable upgrade, but selling and reinstalling everything for a modest improvement may not be worth the hassle. AMD cards can deliver excellent performance, though some users find driver setup and game compatibility less consistently plug-and-play than Nvidia. If you mainly want more frames per dollar and extra VRAM, go AMD; if you want the smoothest DLSS and ray-tracing experience, stay with Nvidia.
