I'm trying to decide whether to keep my RX 9060 XT 8GB or replace it with a used RX 6800 for €260. I'm already running into VRAM limits in some games, so the RX 6800's 16GB could be useful. I could probably sell my current card for around €250, making the switch cost roughly €10 before any selling or travel costs. I can use OptiScaler if I want access to newer FSR features. The RX 6800 is available locally, so I could collect it instead of paying for shipping. My system has a Ryzen 5 7500F, 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive, an 850W Gold power supply, and a B650M-HDV/M.2 motherboard. Is this a worthwhile upgrade, or is it essentially a sidegrade?

The two cards are fairly close in traditional raster performance, so this would mostly be a VRAM swap rather than a performance upgrade. The RX 6800’s 16GB can help with demanding textures and newer games, but the RX 9060 XT is more power efficient and supports newer FSR features more directly. Unless the 8GB limit is definitely causing problems that lowering settings cannot solve, I’d keep the newer card.
At €260, the RX 6800 becomes more reasonable if you can genuinely sell your current card for about €250. Even then, you’re spending time and effort for similar performance. I’d only do it if you’ve confirmed that VRAM is the actual issue in the games you play, rather than a setting, driver, or optimization problem.
Your power supply is more than adequate for an RX 6800, so there’s no extra PSU issue with your self-built system. The main question is resolution, the games you play, and whether you’re seeing actual VRAM-related stuttering or just assuming 8GB will be a problem. If adjusting textures fixes it, keep the 9060 XT; if you’re repeatedly hitting a hard VRAM limit, the 6800 could be a practical but modest swap.
I wouldn’t bother with the exchange as a general upgrade. The RX 6800 has a useful 16GB framebuffer, but it also uses more power and lacks the newer feature support of the 9060 XT. Save the money and make a larger jump later, such as moving to a genuinely faster card with at least 16GB of VRAM.
The seller agreed to €260, and the card is in my city, so I can collect it without shipping. That would make the cost difference fairly small.
