I recently returned a defective RX 9060 XT and bought an RTX 5070 for $880 including tax. I've now found a PowerColor Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB priced at $699, so I could save a significant amount by switching again. I'm a little nervous about trying AMD after the problems with the 9060 XT, although that card may simply have been defective. Has anyone had experience with PowerColor, and would the RX 9070 XT be the better deal overall?

I’d definitely return the 5070 at that price. $880 after tax is hard to justify when a $699 RX 9070 XT is available.
If the RX 9070 XT is cheaper, I’d make the swap. It offers better performance for substantially less money, so this is a pretty straightforward decision.
I had a similar experience with an RX 9060 XT that performed poorly and never worked correctly. I exchanged it for an RTX 5070 and have been happy with the Nvidia card, so I can understand being cautious about switching back.
The RX 9070 XT is the better buy here unless you specifically need Nvidia features or prefer its software ecosystem. For raw gaming performance per dollar, the AMD card is a much stronger deal.
PowerColor has a solid reputation, and some owners have had good experiences with their high-end cards. At $699, the RX 9070 XT looks like the smarter value compared with an $880 RTX 5070.
My RX 9070 XT has been reliable since launch, including with fairly heavy gaming. The 9060 XT may just have been a defective unit. If you switch, use DDU in Safe Mode to remove the Nvidia drivers, or consider a fresh OS installation.
I’m still a little nervous about trying AMD again, but having the 5070 within its return window gives me a backup plan.
That’s what convinced me. I’ve ordered the 9070 XT and will keep the 5070 available during the return period in case the AMD card gives me trouble.
