Should I switch from Bazzite to CachyOS for Sims 4 modding?

The important distinction here is that Bazzite is more locked down than a traditional distribution, but game mods normally live in your user folders and shouldn’t require administrator access. Unless the mod manager specifically needs system-wide changes, the immutable design likely isn’t the actual obstacle. Check which prefix the game is using and whether the game’s settings allow custom content and script mods.

Switching distributions probably won’t solve this by itself. The Sims 4 can run with custom content and mods on Bazzite, but the files may need to be placed in the correct Wine or Proton prefix rather than your normal Windows-style Documents folder. I’d look for a current guide on setting up Sims 4 mods under Linux before reinstalling the operating system.

CachyOS gives you more conventional system access, but it’s also easier to break and generally expects more comfort with the terminal and troubleshooting. If you want something less restrictive without jumping straight to CachyOS, Nobara could be a reasonable middle ground for gaming. Still, I’d only switch after confirming that the problem is genuinely caused by Bazzite rather than the mod installation path or compatibility setup.
