Should I Switch to Development or Look for SDET Roles?

I'm currently working as an Automation Engineer at a fintech company and have about 4 years of experience in QA and Automation. I'm at a crossroads where I need to decide if I should focus on transitioning into development, which I've always been passionate about, or aim for Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) roles. Due to some family circumstances, I never made the jump from QA to Dev earlier, and I feel like I'm not being compensated fairly—earning around 8-10 LPA despite my experience and skills. As I'm the only breadwinner for my family, I'm genuinely seeking advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation. What would you recommend as the best option for my future?

It might be a good idea to start looking at job openings that excite you and reach out to companies you're interested in. This will also help you gauge your market value better!

Yup, that's what I plan to do now!

Take some risks, my friend! Life gets pretty dull without them. Whether you succeed or fail, I'm sure you'll come out stronger either way!

Thanks, that means a lot!

I totally get where you're coming from. I have 4 years of experience too and I'm transitioning from PL/SQL to Python right now. It can be tough, but it’s worth it!

How's that journey going for you?
