My current PC is starting to feel CPU-limited, and I'm considering moving from AM4 to AM5. I've been away from PC building for about two years, so I'd appreciate advice on the best upgrade path for my existing system. Moving to AM5 would require a new motherboard and DDR5 memory, in addition to a new processor. I mainly use Adobe applications and Autodesk software such as Flame and Maya, with gaming as a secondary use. The games I play include Marvel Rivals, Project Zomboid, and Factorio. Would it make more sense to upgrade the CPU within AM4, or is a full AM5 platform change worthwhile for my workload and current graphics card?

You may not need to replace the entire platform. A Ryzen 7 5800X3D would let you keep your current motherboard and memory while providing a substantial gaming upgrade, especially at 1440p with a high-end graphics card. In many games, the real-world difference from moving to a newer AM5 gaming CPU may be smaller than benchmark numbers suggest, while the AM5 route requires paying for the processor, motherboard, and DDR5 memory. For a primarily gaming-focused upgrade, the 5800X3D can be a practical way to extend the life of the system and skip AM5 for now.
That makes sense for gaming, but benchmark results suggest the 5800X3D would provide less than an 8% overall improvement, while a newer high-end chip could be around 40% faster. Is there a reason the AM4 option is still recommended beyond its lower platform cost, particularly for creative applications?
