Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my CPU from an i5 11400F, but I'm feeling a bit stuck on which direction to go. I can't afford to invest in a new DDR5 RAM kit for the latest Intel Ultra or AM5 Ryzen chips. My current options are a Ryzen 7 5700X for about $200 or an Intel i5 14400F for around $220, both with a new motherboard since they're on different sockets. I mainly play CS2 and do some photo editing with Lightroom and Capture One. Benchmark tests show that AMD might offer around 100 more FPS than Intel, but those tests usually use an RTX 4050, while I have an RX 6600. My budget for this upgrade is around $240 to $260 which includes the CPU and motherboard. Any thoughts on what I should choose?

Before you decide, can you clarify your whole setup? It's important to check if something is bottlenecking your current build. Also, what’s your maximum budget?
Honestly, I think you should hold off on upgrading. Your current CPU isn't awful, and both options you're eyeing are nearing the end of their life cycle. It might be worth waiting a year for upcoming releases like Intel Nova Lake or Zen 6, plus hopefully, DDR5 RAM prices will be more reasonable by then!
Thanks for the advice! That makes sense.
You could also look into used Intel CPUs for the LGA 1200 socket on eBay. Just make sure to purchase from reputable sellers. The jump to the i5-14400 or Ryzen means you'll need a new motherboard, and honestly, the i5-14400 isn't significantly better than what you have now; more cores can help, though.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check it out.

Sure! Sorry for the lack of detail. My budget is about $240. Here’s my setup: CPU: i5 11400F, GPU: RX 6600 Challenger D, RAM: 32GB Hyperx Fury CL16 3200MHz, PSU: 650W Seasonic.
