Deadlock is my main game right now, and I'm considering upgrading my PC. It currently has an Intel Core i5-12600K and an RTX 3050 8GB. I'm leaning toward upgrading the graphics card first, but I'm wondering whether that would also noticeably improve performance in games that are more CPU-heavy. I built the system myself a while ago and currently use a 650W Bronze-rated power supply.

Your CPU is still quite serviceable, while the RTX 3050 is limiting your performance much more. A stronger graphics card should give you a noticeable improvement in visual quality and frame rates. Just check the cardโ€™s power requirements and connectors against your 650W Bronze power supply before buying.

Upgrade the GPU first. The i5-12600K is still a capable gaming processor and shouldnโ€™t hold back most modern graphics cards, especially at higher resolutions. The RTX 3050 is the much weaker part of this setup and is likely why youโ€™re relying on ultra-low settings to stay above 100 FPS.

The 12600K should be able to deliver high frame rates in most games, so I wouldnโ€™t rush to replace it. A GPU upgrade makes the most sense first, although the exact improvement in CPU-heavy games depends on your resolution, graphics settings, and target FPS. If youโ€™re already CPU-limited, lowering or raising graphics settings wonโ€™t change the frame rate much.
