Should I Upgrade My GPU or CPU for Better Gaming Performance?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my gaming setup and can't decide whether I should invest in a new GPU or CPU. My current system features a Ryzen 5600X, RX 6750 XT, and 32GB of RAM, and I game on a 1440p monitor. I primarily play competitive FPS games like CS2, Valorant, and Battlefield 6. I'm considering two options: either going for a new CPU/motherboard/DDR5 RAM with a 7800X3D or a 9700X, or just upgrading my GPU to a 9070 XT or a 5070. The costs for both upgrades would be roughly the same. What do you think would give me the best gaming experience?

If you opt for the 7800X3D, you'll have to buy a whole new platform, which can get pricey. The AM4 path doesn't leave you many options since most of the higher-end CPUs are discontinued. Your RX 6750 XT isn’t a bad card for 1440p gaming, but whether upgrading is worth it depends on your budget and what future-proofing you want.

It really comes down to what games you’re playing most. If you’re sticking to just those two, a CPU upgrade with the right parts might boost your performance. But keep an eye out—if you decide to upgrade to a 9070 XT, make sure it fits your overall budget since you might end up needing more than just the GPU.

For competitive gaming, a CPU upgrade seems like the way to go. The 5700 or 5800X3D are decent options but are quite costly right now. Just remember, the 5600X + 6750XT still holds up well at 1440p, so weigh your options before diving in.

Battlefield 6 can be quite CPU-intensive, so if you're looking to get more performance, upgrading the CPU may be worthwhile. That said, make sure that if you do upgrade the GPU, it’s one of the higher-end models like the 9070 or 5070 to see a real difference. Just keep in mind your existing CPU might hold you back unless you get into the latest models.

Honestly, it seems like your current CPU and GPU combo is solid for now. If you go for a new GPU like the 9070 XT, you might find that you're still bottlenecked by the CPU in competitive games. I would suggest waiting until your setup struggles to run the games you love before making a big upgrade. If you really want a bump in performance, the newer GPUs could be worth it, but consider holding off until your system can't keep up anymore.
