I'm considering upgrading from my i5-13400F to something like an i7-14700K, but I'm not sure whether the performance improvement would justify staying on my current socket until I can move to AM5. AM5 motherboards are currently difficult to find in my region, so waiting may be necessary. I mostly play single-player games, occasionally play shooters, and stream. My system has a PNY RTX 5070 Ti OC, an ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-A Gaming WiFi motherboard, 32GB of memory, and an 850W power supply. There's some confusion about whether my memory is DDR4 or DDR5, but I already have compatible memory and would prefer not to replace it unnecessarily. In a few newer games, the CPU reaches close to 100% usage and I've noticed occasional stutters, despite temperatures being under control. Would a 14600K/14700K be a worthwhile temporary upgrade, or should I save for a new AM5 motherboard and processor?

If your current system is still mostly meeting your needs, I’d save the money and wait for the AM5 board and CPU you actually want. A temporary upgrade only makes sense if the stutters are frequent enough to seriously affect your games.
If you already own DDR4, staying on your current platform is more cost-effective. A 14600KF paired with good cooling can be tuned for very strong gaming performance, and manually optimized DDR4 can still perform well. Just make sure the motherboard BIOS supports the new processor before installing it.
A 14600K or 14600KF is probably the best value if you want to keep the Z690 motherboard. It offers a substantial jump over the 13400F and should handle gaming and streaming well. A 14700K makes more sense if you also do demanding rendering or other heavily multithreaded work.

Before buying anything, check whether the games are actually CPU-limited. At 1080p or high-refresh 1440p, the CPU can become the bottleneck, but at 4K the graphics card usually matters more.
