Hey everyone! Currently, I have an i7 12700K, an astral RTX 5080, and 32GB of DDR4 RAM running at 3600MHz. I'm considering upgrading my CPU because I feel like it's struggling to keep up with my newer GPU, especially for gaming at 2K in 2025. I'm torn between upgrading to the i9 14900K or holding off on the upgrade until RAM prices drop. I was also thinking about switching to AMD, but the prices are quite high. What do you think?

If you're going to stay with DDR4, I would definitely recommend just rolling with your 12700K for now. The performance boost from a new CPU might not be worth it, especially with how expensive everything is right now.
I recently upgraded my CPU from a 12400 to a 14600KF because swapping platforms was too pricey. The 12700K is really similar to the 14600KF, so it'll still perform well for another few years. I suggest sticking with it until a platform swap makes more sense, especially since you’re still on DDR4.

Yeah, I was hoping to upgrade, but with prices being so ridiculous, I'm not paying four times what I should!
