I'm new to building PCs and currently have an RTX 5070. I'm considering upgrading to an RX 9070 XT, but I'm unsure whether the performance increase is worth the cost. I'm mainly comparing an ASUS model with an AMD-branded option and would like to understand whether there's a meaningful difference between them. I'd also appreciate firsthand advice on the card's performance, reliability, cooling, and whether upgrading from my RTX 5070 makes sense at all.

ASUS and other companies are board partners that build the cooler and circuit board around AMD’s RX 9070 XT chip. AMD makes the GPU itself, so the different versions usually perform within a few percentage points of each other. The main differences are cooling, noise, size, warranty, appearance, and price. Look for a reasonably priced model with a good cooler that fits your case and has the correct power connectors. XFX and Sapphire are also generally well-regarded AMD options.
I’d keep the RTX 5070. An RX 9070 XT is faster, but the improvement is usually only around 20–25%, which may not justify replacing a perfectly usable card. You’d also give up NVIDIA features such as DLSS and some ray-tracing-related features. If you decide to upgrade anyway, the 9070 XT is the one to consider rather than the regular 9070, but selling the 5070 first and getting a good price for it would make the switch more reasonable.
Different 9070 XT models may have slightly different clock speeds, but factory-overclocked versions generally only gain a tiny amount of performance. Cooling, noise, price, and fit matter more than the model’s advertised overclock.
