Should I upgrade this PC or build a new one for modern and online games?

I've had this PC for several years and want to play newer games, especially online titles, but I'm worried about buying incompatible parts or spending money in the wrong places. My current hardware is an Intel Core i5-6500 at 3.2 GHz, 16 GB of likely DDR4 RAM, a 112 GB Samsung 840 SSD for Windows and miscellaneous files, a 1.8 TB Seagate hard drive where I keep most games, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB. I also use a Netgear A6100 USB Wi-Fi adapter, which frequently disconnects until I unplug it and causes extremely slow downloads and unreliable online gaming. I could spend up to roughly $2,000 if necessary, but I'd prefer a cheaper upgrade that provides good value. Should I replace individual components, address the Wi-Fi problem separately, or build an entirely new system?

A balanced new system could use a current gaming-focused Ryzen processor, 32 GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a modern B650-class motherboard with built-in Wi-Fi, a quality 850 W power supply, and a current mid-to-high-end graphics card such as the Radeon RX 9070. You may be able to reuse the existing hard drive for bulk storage, although adding a modern NVMe SSD would make game loading and general responsiveness much better. A slightly cheaper graphics card option could save some money while still providing strong performance.

For modern gaming, nearly every major component in this system is several generations old. You could upgrade the graphics card, but the old processor would limit performance in newer games, and youโd still be dealing with an aging platform, storage setup, and possibly power supply. A new build is likely the better long-term investment rather than replacing parts one at a time.

WittyMaple64: Thatโs a pretty expensive memory listing for a 32 GB kit. Iโd double-check the price and shop around before buying; DDR5-6000 kits normally shouldnโt take up a huge portion of the budget.
