I'm currently using an Intel Core i3 10100F and I'm considering an upgrade. I have an option to get an i5 10400F for about $60 and keep my existing motherboard and RAM. Alternatively, I could opt for a Ryzen 5800X for $145 and pair it with a budget B550 board, though that would cost me around $200 or more. I'm leaning towards investing in a better GPU instead. I play on a 1440p monitor but I'm okay with lowering settings or using upscaling if needed. I mostly play an MMO with multiple clients open and possibly Black Ops 7 on lower settings or EA FC 26. Which path do you think would be more beneficial?

I’d recommend going for the i5 10400F. While the 5800X is definitely faster, at 1440p, the money would be better spent on a good GPU instead. You're likely to see better performance from the graphics side with the same budget.
Honestly, it all boils down to how much you’re willing to spend on the GPU. If you're upgrading to an i5 10400F, pair it with a decent GPU and you should be good to go. But at 1440p, CPU bottlenecking isn't as much of an issue, so focus on that graphics card.
If I were you, I’d skip the i5 upgrade for now and invest in a solid GPU instead. Waiting to upgrade your CPU seems more sensible, especially since you’re still running a decent i3. Save your cash for a more powerful CPU later when you need it.

Yeah, but aren't four cores on the i3 a bit limiting for modern gaming? I'm worried about performance drops with newer titles.
