My monitor is currently using its HDMI inputs, but I want to connect a Nintendo Switch 2 as well. Would an HDMI splitter or HDMI switch be the right solution? The monitor may have two HDMI inputs, and I can use a TV if necessary. What setup would work best?

A basic HDMI switch should be enough for switching between a PC, the Switch 2, and other devices. A KVM switch is only really necessary if you also want to share USB peripherals like a keyboard and mouse between computers. Make sure the HDMI switch supports the resolution and refresh rate you want.
Check the back of the monitor first. If it has two HDMI inputs, you can connect the existing device to one and the Switch 2 to the other, then change inputs on the monitor without buying anything.
You want an HDMI switch, not a splitter. A splitter duplicates one source signal across multiple displays, while an HDMI switch lets you connect several devices to one monitor and select which one is active.
