Should I Use Ruby Alongside Python for a Bakery Database Project?

I'm studying data science and starting a semester project centered on a bakery database. The system will handle orders, demand forecasting, inventory loss tracking, customer notifications, and similar features. I already have experience with Python, but I'm also learning Ruby and am wondering whether it would make sense to include Ruby in the project. If so, what role could it play? I'm particularly considering using Ruby as an API backend.

Start with the database design and basic CRUD operations for products, orders, customers, and inventory. Once that foundation works, add forecasting and notifications. Introducing Ruby is only worthwhile if you have a specific feature or learning goal for it; otherwise, it may distract from the main project.

Before choosing multiple languages, decide what the project needs to demonstrate. A Ruby API can work, but youโ€™ll need a clear way for it to communicate with the Python forecasting service, such as HTTP endpoints or a job queue. For a beginner project, using Python for both the API and analytics will usually be simpler.

Python is probably the most practical choice for the core of this project, especially for forecasting and data processing. Libraries like pandas and scikit-learn will make that part much easier. You could technically use Ruby for an API backend, but mixing languages may create extra integration and deployment work without adding much value.

MellowCedar42: I was mainly thinking about using Ruby as the API backend while keeping Python for the data science parts.
