I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB of RAM, and an RTX 3070. Most of the games I play run well at maximum settings at 1080p, but I'm considering moving to a 1440p or 4K monitor next year. I've heard that the AM6 platform might arrive around 2028, so I'm wondering whether it makes sense to wait for that instead of upgrading to AM5. Would a GPU upgrade be enough for higher resolution gaming, or would it be worth replacing the whole platform sooner?

There’s no need to plan around a platform that may be several years away. Upgrade when your current hardware is actually holding you back. If you want better image quality and are happy with your current frame rates, start with the monitor and GPU. If you later notice CPU-related limits, you can then move to a newer platform instead of replacing everything preemptively.
If your main goal is moving to 1440p or 4K, upgrade the GPU rather than rebuilding the entire PC. Cards in the class of an RX 9070, RX 9070 XT, RTX 5070 Ti, or RX 7900 XTX would be a much bigger help for higher resolutions than changing the CPU and motherboard. You can keep the 5600X for now and replace the rest of the platform later.
Since your current system already handles your games well at 1080p, moving to AM5 right now probably wouldn’t make a noticeable difference. For 1440p or 4K, the graphics card is usually the main limitation, while the 5600X can still provide solid performance. You could keep your current platform and wait until a future upgrade offers a more meaningful improvement.
That’s what I was thinking. I haven’t played many of the more demanding games yet, and most of what I play already runs at maximum settings, so a full AM5 upgrade might not be worthwhile just yet.
Would it be better to wait for the next generation of graphics cards? I’d rather buy the newest option, even if it costs more, so I can keep it longer before upgrading again.
