Sony UBP-X700 Plays 4K Disc Menus but Shows No Play Option

My Sony UBP-X700 works normally with standard DVDs and appears to read this 4K Blu-ray disc: the warning screens and animated title sequence play, and the audio works. However, no menu options appear, so there's no way to select Play or start the movie. I've already changed several settings, performed a factory reset, and updated the firmware using an Ethernet connection. Has anyone run into this or found a way to get the disc to start?

Firmware probably isnโ€™t the issue if the player reports that itโ€™s fully updated, especially after you confirmed it over Ethernet. The next useful test would be another 4K Blu-ray in the same player, plus this disc in a different compatible player. That should show whether the fault follows the disc or stays with the UBP-X700.

Since the warning screens, animation, and audio are working, the player is reading at least part of the disc. Try using the remoteโ€™s Top Menu, Pop-Up Menu, Enter, and navigation buttons while the title screen is showing. If the menu graphics still never appear, test another 4K disc and inspect or clean this disc; the problem may be with the discโ€™s menu authoring or the disc itself rather than the player.

MellowCactus42: Iโ€™ve tried navigating with the remote, but no menu choices appear at all. The animation and audio continue normally, so Iโ€™m not sure whether the menu is failing to render or the disc is stuck before playback.
