Hey everyone! I recently upgraded my PC from a Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5 motherboard with a Realtek 1150 codec to an MSi X470 Gaming Plus motherboard. The new setup has some pretty lackluster sound quality compared to my old system. I'm looking for recommendations on a sound card that could help me achieve sound quality similar to what I had before. What options are out there?

Honestly, if you can notice the differences in sound quality from different motherboards, that’s impressive. But in all seriousness, sound cards aren’t as common as they used to be—most people seem to just use equalizer apps to adjust what they’re hearing.

I hear you, but I think the volume levels can really differ. I just want to balance the volume with my Cloud Alpha headset, because the sound on my new motherboard is way quieter.

I'd recommend looking into an external DAC. This is often the go-to choice for audiophiles as it helps minimize electrical noise from your PC. USB is usually the easiest route, but you could also use an optical cable to an amplifier if that suits you. If you just need something simple for headphones, even a basic device like a USB C Apple dongle can work wonders unless you're using high impedance headphones.
