ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Won’t Boot Any USB After BIOS Update

I'm an intern system engineer trying to wipe a Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6. We normally use a bootable USB wiping tool, and that same drive works on every other device we've tested. On this laptop, however, the system refuses to boot from it. Windows 10 and Windows 11 installation USBs also fail, and even choosing repair mode results in a reboot loop.

So far I've disabled Secure Boot, reset Windows, run DISM and SFC, updated the system and BIOS, compared the BIOS settings with working machines, run the built-in motherboard and memory diagnostics, changed the boot priority, and manually selected the USB through the F12 boot menu.

Are there any BIOS settings or ThinkPad-specific features I should check? I'm particularly wondering about TPM resets, UEFI versus Legacy compatibility, storage controller settings such as RST/VMD, or Lenovo's built-in secure-wipe tools.

Check the F12 boot menu for Lenovo’s built-in ThinkShield Secure Wipe option, usually under an Apps or similar submenu. It may let you erase the drive without needing the external wiping USB.

Verify that the USB was created for UEFI boot. If the image is Legacy/CSM-only, it may work on older computers but fail on a newer model that expects UEFI. Since multiple Windows installers also loop, this is worth checking before rebuilding the drive.

Try resetting the TPM from the BIOS in addition to disabling Secure Boot, then test the USB again. Some newer ThinkPads are stricter about security settings than older systems.

The DISM, SFC, and Windows reset steps probably won’t affect this particular problem because the failure occurs before the installer loads, so it’s likely outside the operating system. The BIOS wipe utility, TPM state, USB UEFI compatibility, or a firmware issue are more relevant places to focus.
