Transitioning to a New Azure Tenant: What Should I Focus On First?

My team has been using our own Azure tenant for the past four years, but due to a recent reorganization, we're required to migrate to new subscriptions under a centralized IT tenant with a new enterprise agreement. This process won't be quick or easy, as per the guidance from our Microsoft team, it appears we can't simply reconnect our existing subscriptions. I'm actually seeing this as a valuable opportunity to start fresh and implement better practices, since we rushed into Azure without much time for proper configurations before.

Our new focus is heavily on security, including getting familiar with Defender for Cloud and Azure Update Manager. I've dabbled with Azure Policy, but there's so much more potential there. I'd love some advice on the top 3 to 5 key areas we should target before we begin the creation or migration of resources. The tenant admins will set up the subscriptions and handle networking, but we'll manage these new subscriptions. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Definitely start with tagging and governance policies. It helps in managing resources effectively. Also, think about implementing policy at the management group level right from the beginning. This can streamline governance for your subscriptions in the long run.

Are you enforcing these policies actively, or is it more of a team-wide agreement to follow them?
