I tried to install 32GB of DDR4 RAM in my computer, and now I only get a lock screen every time I turn it on. I've already attempted a bunch of fixes: taking out the battery, resetting the BIOS, switching to the motherboard's GPU, trying an old GPU, and even putting the original RAM back. Unfortunately, I still only get a black screen when I try to boot. I'm really worried I've messed something up badly because I have a work-from-home job starting soon, and I don't have a working computer now. I'm feeling pretty upset about this—any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you have an AMD setup, you might want to give the computer some time after upgrading the RAM—wait about 5 to 10 minutes for memory training. Also, try using just one stick of RAM in the last slot and see if that gets you anywhere after a few minutes.

Thanks for the tip! I actually have an Intel i5, so I don’t think that applies. I didn’t let it sit long before shutting it down. Should I try waiting longer next time?
