Trouble Opening Large Google Sheet Exported as Excel: Any Ideas?

I'm dealing with a frustrating issue where a large Google Sheet (30MB) exported as an .xlsx file won't open on certain workstations. The specific error message I get is, "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened." Interestingly, a version of this file from a week ago opens perfectly fine. The current file works on other computers but fails on my primary workstation and one other device in my department. Unfortunately, we lack central device management right now, and due to confidentiality, the users can't send the file for off-site testing.

I've already attempted several things: I checked the file properties to ensure it was unblocked, tried opening it in multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) and ran an 'Open and Repair' in Excel, which didn't help. I'm suspecting this might be a local configuration issue in Excel, possibly related to the Trust Center settings, a conflict in a Windows temporary folder, or maybe a resource limit being triggered during the Protected View validation.

I'm hoping for any insights on specific local Excel settings, registry keys, or environment variables that might flag a file as corrupt when downloading from the internet. I'm under a hard deadline to resolve this by Wednesday, so any advice on clearing Excel caches or related quirks would be extremely helpful!

Have you tried creating a new user profile on the machine to see if the file opens there? Sometimes, profile settings cause issues like this. Also, make sure to save a copy in case it works!

Have you thought about repairing the Office installation? You can do this through the installed apps settings. It might fix any underlying issues that are causing the error.

I tried that already, but unfortunately, it didn’t solve the problem.
