I'm experiencing issues with the left mouse button on my old Sony Vaio laptop while running Mint 21.3 XFCE. The right button and trackpad cursor movement work fine, but the left-click just doesn't respond, even with trackpad taps. When I boot into Windows, everything functions correctly, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Restarting Mint hasn't resolved this either. Any suggestions? I also noticed pressing hard on the left edge of the button makes it work sometimes, which is odd, and doesn't seem to happen on Windows. I'd appreciate any help!

It sounds like this might be related to the XFCE desktop environment. Have you tried using a different window manager to see if the issue persists? Also, I once had a similar problem due to the synaptics driver; blacklisting or unloading it helped me out. It’s worth a shot if you’re already troubleshooting! Let me know if you need any help with that.
Totally get how frustrating that can be! I'd suggest giving other desktop environments a try just to rule out XFCE-specific issues. It could also be a quirky software bug since the left button works fine in Windows. Sometimes these things can be unpredictable!
