Trouble with Print Queues in PaperCut: Help Needed!

I'm working on the network side of things and trying to help out with an issue we're experiencing with our print queues in PaperCut. Some print jobs seem to fail depending on the paper size, even though the same printer can handle different paper sizes. We're getting a "failed..." message on the server, though I need to check with our tech for the exact wording. Here's what we've already done:

- Verified that there's paper available for all sizes.
- Restarted the PaperCut servers.

We've got support, but since it's through a subcontracted service, their response time is a bit slow. I'm looking for suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further.

Are you sure you're using the right drivers for your printers? Sometimes, that can really affect how jobs process. You mentioned better checking—drivers are crucial because they control how the data gets sent to the printer, especially if users have to log in and release jobs.

It sounds like the printer may not be recognizing the specific page size you’re trying to use. A good first step would be to create a non-PaperCut print queue on your local machine. Try printing to the "y" size paper outside of PaperCut to see if it works there. This will help you rule out if it's a printer issue or something with PaperCut itself.

That was my thought too! If it prints fine without PaperCut, then they might need to look into page size filters in the PaperCut admin settings.

I did something similar and the jobs showed up on the queue, but I think it's still a PaperCut issue based on what I saw.

It's important to clarify whether you're using PaperCut MF or NG, as they handle things differently. I had a similar issue before and found that using the right driver type, like PCL6, made a world of difference with print performance.

We use Xerox copiers and had great success by going with the Xerox global print driver.

We primarily use PaperCut MF, and users log into a print website to upload documents before printing. Can you shed light on how the drivers work with this setup?

First off, confirm whether you're dealing with PaperCut MF or NG, as they operate differently. Since you mentioned a third-party vendor, I'm leaning towards MF given your setup.

Yes, it does say MF on my page but unfortunately, I lack admin access. Looks like the naming could use some work!

Ensure you're assigning the correct drivers to each print queue and that the proper paper sizes are configured for each tray, especially with Secure Print enabled. We had to standardize the paper sizes in our trays to get everything working smoothly.

Great point—I mentioned it to the person handling the printers so they can check with support about the drivers.
