Understanding the Lifecycle of Claude 3 Haiku in Mumbai’s Bedrock

Hi folks,

I'm currently developing a production chatbot utilizing the Amazon Bedrock Agent in the Mumbai region (ap-south-1) with Claude 3 Haiku. I need some clarity on the model lifecycle and deprecation timelines as I'm encountering mixed messages:

- According to Anthropic's documentation, Claude 3 Haiku will be deprecated in February 2026 and retired by April 20, 2026, according to the Claude API.
- However, in my Bedrock console, Haiku is still active while Claude 3 Sonnet is already noted as legacy.
- AWS lifecycle documentation indicates that models can remain in legacy status for months before reaching end-of-life (EOL) and may even have extended access.
- Additionally, the only Bedrock-optimized models available in my region are Claude 3 Haiku and Claude 3 Sonnet.

This raises questions about whether Anthropic's retirement dates are applicable to the Bedrock environment.

My specific queries are:
1. Will Claude 3 Haiku remain functional in Bedrock (ap-south-1) beyond April 2026? Until when?
2. Given that Claude 3 Sonnet is already classified as legacy, is it sensible to switch from Haiku to Sonnet? Will it provide any extension in terms of usage?

I'd greatly appreciate any insights or experiences shared on this matter.

Thanks!

Honestly, you might want to rethink sticking with legacy models like those. It's generally a good idea to jump to newer versions like 4.5 or 6, which offer better features and support.

I get that, but my project specifically doesn’t allow for cross-model inference, leaving me stuck with only Haiku 3 and Sonnet 3 as the optimized options in my region.
