Upgrading from a 9900K: What CPU and Motherboard Should I Get?

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU from the Intel 9900K because I want a new motherboard with more USB-C ports and a CPU that will last me a few years. I currently have an RTX 3090 and play games on an ultrawide monitor, with a 4K monitor on the side. I'm not too worried about being CPU bound, but I think I'm looking to spend around $1000 for the CPU, RAM, and motherboard. My power supply is 1000W. What are my best options and should I wait before making the jump?

Being near a Microcenter is a huge plus! I have the 7600X3D bundle for $430 and it works excellently for 1440 ultrawide gaming. If you're also gaming in 4K, the 7800X3D and 9800X3D are a bit pricier and might not offer much more for the price. Seriously, it's a solid pick!

You might want to consider going for the 7600X or 9600X, paired with a B850 motherboard and 32GB of 6000MHz CL30 RAM. Just go for whichever option ends up being cheaper! If you're gaming at 1440p ultrawide with that 3090, splurging on the higher-end chips like the x3D series may not be necessary. Maybe the 7700X is worth a look if the difference isn't huge. If you have a Microcenter nearby, the 7600X3D bundle is actually a pretty solid deal!

I do have a Microcenter nearby, thanks for the tip! But I'm hesitant about the 9600X since it's only 6 cores. I want a CPU that will last me over 5 years.

If you’re close to a Microcenter, definitely check out the 9800X3D and 9950X3D bundles. The 9800X3D is great for most gaming situations, but if you do a lot of work that can utilize more cores and threads, the 9950X3D might be worth the investment!

After some research, the 9800X3D seems like the best option with a solid balance of price and performance. Thanks for the insight!
