Upgrading from a GTX 970: What Budget GPU Should I Consider?

I've recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU from an i5-4690 to an i5-8600, but I'm still using my old GTX 970, which I've had for over a decade. I tried playing the first mission of Space Marine 2 on my NVME SSD, and it lagged significantly during swarm battles. I'm on a budget and can't spend over $500 on a new graphics card right now. As a casual gamer, I'm looking for recommendations on a budget-friendly GPU that can still handle current games without costing a fortune. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’d recommend checking out the GTX 3060 or 3070 on the used market. They perform well and should be relatively affordable if you find a good deal. Just keep in mind, since your system is a bit older, you might not fully utilize the newer cards because of the PCIe 3.0 interface.

Consider looking into a used graphics card like the RX 6600 XT with 16GB of VRAM. They can be found at a decent price and should handle most modern games quite well without pushing your budget too hard.
