I've recently dived back into PC gaming after a few years away, and I'm looking to upgrade my setup. Currently, I have a GTX 1080, an i7 6700 processor, and 16GB of RAM. I've been playing Marvel Rivals, but unfortunately, my performance is lagging, especially compared to the smooth 120 FPS I get on console. I'm aiming for a stable 120 FPS while playing at higher ranks. I think I only need to upgrade my motherboard, CPU, and GPU. I'm considering buying used pieces from Facebook Marketplace, specifically a 2070 or 3070 for around $200. What CPU do you all recommend, and is my graphics card choice on point?

I found some decent deals on eBay that could save you some cash. For instance, you might get a CPU/motherboard combo for around $100, and if you sell your old parts, you'll recoup some of that cash. Also, some 3070s have been going for around $170-180, which is a solid upgrade and should help with your FPS. It’s also worth considering a 3080 if you can find a good deal! Just make sure your power supply can handle the new components.
Definitely! The 3070 generally performs better than the 2080 in most games, especially for newer titles. It's a great investment!
Upgrading your GPU to a 3070 sounds like a solid plan; it'll give you a nice boost. However, your i7 6700 isn't the worst CPU, but it's true you might hit some performance ceilings. If you're looking for a new CPU, something like the Ryzen 5 3600 would be an affordable and powerful choice and can work well in both gaming and multitasking scenarios. But yeah, some newer CPUs might require a new motherboard and RAM if you go with DDR5. Just keep in mind your PSU needs to support the new components too!
Thanks for the input! I didn't realize DDR5 was a thing! What about when I upgrade my motherboard? Also, do you have any specific CPU recommendations?
Yeah, if you go DDR5, it's definitely a newer path. But for the 3600 CPU, that's still a good option, and if you want to stick to DDR4, the 3000 series can still be quite capable!

I appreciate the links! I’ll check out those options. Between the 3070 and 2080, do you think the 3070 is worth it?
