My wired Logitech B100 mouse works normally when I first connect it, but after roughly an hour it stops responding. The red optical light briefly comes on when I plug it in or scan for hardware changes, then turns off, and clicks or movement do nothing. Removing the mouse drivers and restarting temporarily fixes the problem, but it comes back later. A second wired mouse has the same issue, while the laptop's trackpad continues working. I also tested a remote mouse app and it eventually stopped working in the same way, so I'm wondering whether this is related to USB power management, chipset drivers, or another software setting. Is there a permanent fix besides restarting every hour?

Update the laptop’s chipset and USB controller drivers. Since the laptop uses an Intel processor, look for the chipset and USB drivers on the laptop manufacturer’s support page first; Intel’s driver tools may also help. You shouldn’t necessarily need an entire driver bundle if the manufacturer provides the chipset driver separately.
Check the USB power settings first. In Device Manager, open the USB controllers and USB Root Hub entries, then turn off “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.” You can also disable USB selective suspend in the Windows power plan settings. These options can cause USB devices to stop responding after the computer has been running for a while.
I’ll check those settings. If they’re already disabled, is there another setting I should look at, or would that point more toward a hardware problem?
Testing another mouse is a good way to separate a faulty peripheral from a laptop issue. Since a second wired B100 has the same behavior and the trackpad keeps working, the mouse itself is less likely to be the cause. That makes USB power management, controller drivers, or the laptop’s USB hardware more likely.
I tested another wired mouse and it had the same problem, so I’m leaning toward a laptop or Windows issue rather than the mouse.
