What affordable tablet is best for studying, multitasking, and long battery life?

The Galaxy Tab S9 FE is worth considering if you find it on sale, usually around $400–$600 CAD. It has better performance than the A9+, good battery life, Samsung DeX, and enough power for multitasking, school apps, PDFs, and note-taking. It’s probably the better long-term choice if your budget can stretch that far.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ is probably the best match at the lower end. It often sells for around $300–$380 CAD, depending on storage and sales. Try to get the 8 GB RAM version if possible—the 4 GB model can struggle when you have lots of apps or browser tabs open. It handles split-screen studying reasonably well and the battery should last through a full day of notes and PDFs. It has Samsung’s desktop-style mode, but it isn’t as powerful as the mode on the higher-end Tab S models.

Another way to save money is to buy an older Galaxy Tab S model or a previous-generation FE model during a sale. Older S-series tablets can still offer better multitasking, storage options, and display support than a brand-new budget tablet. Just check how much software-support time remains and make sure the model has at least 6–8 GB of RAM.

Be careful about what you mean by PC mode. Samsung DeX makes the tablet interface look more like a desktop, but external-monitor support depends on the specific tablet. Some of the cheaper A-series models don’t support video output through USB-C, so they may not work with a monitor or projector even though they have a DeX-like interface. The S-series models are generally a safer choice if connecting to an external display matters.
