We switched from AGPM to using Git for versioning our Group Policy Objects (GPOs) a while back. It lets us export GPOs to a repository, commit changes, and access a complete change history with diffs and rollbacks. It's not perfect, but it certainly reduces a lot of the headaches we had with AGPM.
