What are some practical ways to earn money from an extra gaming PC?

After upgrading my computer several times, I have enough spare parts to build another system. I would only need to buy a power supply and graphics card, and it would likely end up with 16 GB of RAM, around 8 GB of VRAM, and generally solid gaming performance. I'm not interested in selling the PC, but I'd like to use it for a little extra income. I'm not expecting a large profitโare there any realistic ways to make money with it while keeping power costs in mind?

Most services you can host on a home PC probably wonโt earn more than the electricity costs, especially if the system and graphics card are running constantly. Unless you already have a specific customer or project, selling the hardware would usually be the simplest way to recover its value.

If you do work that can be split across multiple computers, such as 3D rendering, video processing, or certain development tasks, the extra system could help you finish paid projects faster. That can increase your income, but it requires active work rather than being passive income, and youโll still need to account for electricity and hardware wear.

You could use it as a home media server and potentially replace some streaming subscriptions. That probably wonโt generate cash directly, but the savings can add up if you already have a use for a server.
MellowOrbit42: Iโve already set up something similar with an old family laptop, so I was mainly hoping for an option that could bring in actual income.

MellowOrbit42: Iโm hesitant to sell it because Iโm worried hardware prices may not drop anytime soon, and Iโd prefer to keep the machine available.
