What are some simple, affordable server log dashboards?

I'm looking for a logging tool that I can install or run on my own servers and access through a web browser. I understand that agents or collectors will need to send logs to it, but I'd like something relatively straightforward to deploy with a clean, useful dashboard rather than a large enterprise platform. My main goals are centralizing event logs and possibly viewing more detailed network or hardware usage alongside the information I already get from vSphere. I'm open to paid or free options and would also consider assembling a solution from separate components if that is more practical.

The ELK stackโ€”Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibanaโ€”is a common option and gives you a lot of flexibility for collecting and presenting logs. The downside is that it takes more effort to install, tune, and maintain than a simple plug-and-play product.

You could also look at Wazuh, especially if security monitoring and centralized event collection are important. Zabbix, PRTG, or an RMM platform may be more appropriate for system, network, and hardware monitoring, but they are not necessarily replacements for a dedicated log platform.

Before choosing a product, it helps to define what you want the dashboard to answer. Servers generate a huge amount of data, so decide whether you mainly need centralized event logs, alerting, security detection, performance metrics, or capacity trends. Grafana can provide attractive dashboards, but it usually needs a separate data source and some setup rather than working as a complete logging solution by itself.

MellowPine42: The main goal is to centralize event logs and get some network or hardware details in one place. I already see some of that through vSphere, but Iโ€™m checking whether a dedicated platform can provide more depth.

There are commercial products and monitoring suites that provide polished dashboards, but the cost can increase quickly. Some RMM tools include monitoring and customizable dashboards, and a few offer limited free plans. They may be worth comparing if you also need patching, alerts, and endpoint management, although initial configuration can be fairly involved.

Graylog is probably one of the better fits for this. It is self-hosted, web-based, and designed specifically for collecting, searching, and visualizing logs. It is less overwhelming than some enterprise platforms, though youโ€™ll still need to configure inputs, parsing, retention, and dashboards.
