Hey everyone! I recently got my hands on an older PC with a GTX 1050, 16GB DDR3 RAM, an i5-2380P, and an Asus P8H61-M LX3 motherboard. I was initially planning to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 3600, but realized I would need DDR4 RAM for that. So now I'm wondering if there are still good CPU options that could work with DDR3. I know I'll need to upgrade the motherboard as well, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You might find it more cost-effective to jump to a Ryzen and DDR4 setup altogether rather than searching for an older Intel board and CPU combination.
Using a DDR3 CPU with a GTX 1050 will work, but if you want decent performance overall, upgrading to a newer platform is really the way to go.
The i7-5775C is actually the latest Intel CPU that still supports DDR3. It has a huge eDRAM cache and performs surprisingly well, even better than the 4790K in games, but they're hard to find.
If you're really set on keeping your current board, the i7-3770K is your best bet. However, if you're planning to switch the motherboard anyway, definitely go for the 4790K since it maximizes DDR3 performance.
Honestly, the i7-4790K is a solid pick for DDR3. But if you're open to it, consider looking into DDR4 setups since they're becoming more affordable, depending on where you live and your budget.
