What are the best free beginner resources for learning to code without AI?

I want to learn programming for personal enrichment rather than a career. My goal is to understand the fundamentals well enough to write programs independently, without relying on AI to generate or explain everything for me. What free beginner-friendly courses, books, or practice resources would you recommend?

If youโre interested in Python specifically, Real Python has clear tutorials and practical explanations. Itโs a good supplement for learning the language, though youโll still want to practice by writing your own small programs and solving problems without AI.

There isnโt one perfect resource for everyone, so choose based on how you like to learn. CS50x is a strong free option if you want something structured like a college computer science course, with theory and detailed explanations. If youโd rather start building websites right away through self-guided projects, The Odin Project is worth considering. Whichever path you choose, focus on resources that explain the underlying ideas and give you exercises instead of relying mainly on videos.
