What are the best free virtual machine programs for testing Linux on Windows 10?

I'm considering switching from Windows 10 to Linux, but I would like to test out a few different distributions first before making a decision. I'm thinking a virtual machine would be a great way to do this so I can experiment without leaving my current setup. Can anyone recommend some free virtual machine software for running Linux on Windows 10? Also, I apologize if my question sounds strange; English isn't my first language, and I'm not very tech-savvy.

If you're using Windows 10 Pro, you might also want to try Hyper-V. It's built into Windows, so you just need to enable it in your settings. If you're on the Home edition, go with VirtualBox!

You could simply search for Hyper-V in your Windows bar; it's Microsoft's built-in virtualization software! You might also check out DistroTest to explore different Linux distros directly in your browser—it’s a fun way to play around without the VM hassle!

For a more authentic experience with Linux, consider running it live from a USB drive. This method can give you better performance since VMs might not handle some video drivers as effectively.

Just a heads up, VirtualBox actually runs smoothly on Windows too! It's a solid choice while you test out different Linux versions.

VirtualBox is definitely the most popular choice for running Linux on Windows. It's available for all operating systems and works well for most Linux distros.
