What are the best resources for learning C today?

I want to learn the C programming language, but I'm having trouble choosing a good resource. Paid materials are fine, including books or structured courses. I'd especially like something reasonably current so that the examples and instructions work with modern operating systems, compilers, and development tools. What would you recommend for a beginner?

The age of a C book isnโt necessarily a major problem. C has changed much less than many newer languages, and most of the fundamentals in older books still apply. If you follow a book aimed at an older standard, configure your compiler accordinglyโfor example, with an option such as `-std=c89`โso the examples behave as intended.

The classic book โThe C Programming Languageโ by Kernighan and Ritchie is still an excellent starting point. Itโs concise and somewhat dense, so you may want to pair it with a more beginner-friendly course or reference. Although it doesnโt cover every detail of the newest C standard, the core material remains highly relevant.

A structured interactive course such as Boot.dev could also be worth trying if you prefer guided lessons and exercises instead of learning entirely from a book. Before choosing, it may help to compare it with a few other courses and decide whether you learn better through projects, reading, or video instruction.
