What Could Cause Flickering and Misalignment on My PS5?

I've been experiencing some strange flickering and misalignment issues on my PS5 lately. I can't post pictures here, but I'll describe what's happening: certain portions of the screen flicker, showing a delayed or misaligned view. Sometimes when I turn my head, either the top fifth or bottom third of the screen flashes between a laggy and a normal view. This began with certain games; for example, when I played Rust on the PS5 version, it happened from day one. It seemed to stop when I switched the graphics to performance mode, but I don't have the same luck in Minecraft, and I've seen it in other games too. My screenshots from the PS5 show the problem directly, so it doesn't seem related to my screen or HDMI issues. Any ideas on what's going on?

It sounds like you might be dealing with screen tearing, especially if it's happening when you're in motion or turning the camera in-game. Screen tearing occurs when your PS5 updates the frame while the TV is still drawing the previous one, leading to part of the old and new frames being displayed at the same time. It's a common issue, but not necessarily a fault in your hardware. You might want to check if v-sync is turned on or consider using VRR if your TV supports it, as that can help sync the display updates better.

If you're seeing this issue in games like Minecraft even after adjusting settings, it might be something else at play. Have you tried checking the settings related to VRR on your TV? Sometimes those menus can be a bit hidden. Also, consider doing a hard reset on your console just to clear any glitches.

You mentioned that this happens with certain games, and it might be related to how they render graphics. If the problem persists despite switching settings, it could be worth checking for any system updates or patch notes for the games you're experiencing issues with.
