I'm putting together a new gaming PC centered around an MSI RTX 4070 12GB. Budget isn't a concern, so I'm looking for the strongest CPU and RAM combination to pair with it. I'd mainly like excellent gaming performance, but I'm also curious whether the build should account for tasks such as AI experimentation or other productivity workloads.

For a gaming-focused build with no strict budget, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is an excellent choice. It offers very strong gaming performance and should remain capable through several future GPU upgrades. Pair it with 32GB of DDR5-6000, ideally around CL30. That memory specification is a good balance of speed and latency, although premium kits can be expensive.
If you plan to do substantial non-gaming work, an Intel processor could be worth considering because of its strong multicore performance and broader productivity strengths. An Intel Core i5-13600K paired with the RTX 4070 is already a capable combination, though a higher-end Core i7 or i9 would make more sense if your workloads regularly use many CPU cores. For gaming alone, the X3D Ryzen chips are generally the more appealing choice.
A Ryzen 7 7800X3D paired with 32GB of DDR5-6000 works very well with the RTX 4070. It should handle modern games smoothly at high settings, and the combination gives you plenty of gaming performance without needing an extreme amount of memory.

I can get a Ryzen 7 7800X3D for about $400. Is the 9800X3D worth paying more for, or would the 7800X3D deal be the better value?
